2024 Ford Maverick Engines & Hybrid Fuel Efficiency
Choose your 2024 Ford Maverick with either a gasoline or hybrid engine. The standard gas EcoBoost® inline four-cylinder (I4) engine makes 250 horsepower and can get up to 30 MPG on the highway. If you’re looking for even stronger fuel efficiency numbers, then the available hybrid engine gets up to 42 MPG in the city. Haul with confidence using the Maverick. In their standard configurations, the gas and hybrid versions can both tow up to 2,000 pounds, and the gas engine paired with the available 4K Tow Package can tow up to 4,000 pounds.
You’ll find the gas engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, while the hybrid gets an electronic continuously variable transmission. 2023 Ford Maverick Engines & Towing
For daily drives and weekend trips out of town, the 2023 Ford Maverick features a versatile standard hybrid powertrain and powerful EcoBoost® engine option. With either engine, the standard towing capacity of the Ford Maverick is 2,000 pounds. However, trucks equipped with the 2.0L EcoBoost engine are available with the 4K Tow Package which increases your maximum towing capacity to 4,000 pounds. All-wheel drive is available across the trim lineup, while front-wheel drive is standard. For even more all-weather and all-terrain confidence, the XLT and LARIAT trims are available with advanced four-wheel drive.

FHEV Hybrid Engine vs. EcoBoost Engine
The standard full hybrid powertrain in the 2022 Ford Maverick is the fourth-generation Ford hybrid propulsion system. It consists of an Atkinson cycle four-cylinder hybrid engine, paired to an electronic continuously variable transmission (eCVT), along with a permanent magnet electric motor and liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery. The electric motor was designed and manufactured in-house by Ford, and the briefcase-sized battery is located under the second-row seats to help maximize your available cargo space.
By comparison, the 2.0L EcoBoost gasoline engine that’s available across the Maverick lineup produces significantly more horsepower, enables a higher maximum towing capacity, and still offers 30 MPG on the highway. Another key difference is that every Maverick with the hybrid powertrain is front-wheel drive (FWD), but you can choose either FWD or all-wheel drive (AWD) with the EcoBoost.
2022 Ford Maverick Towing & Payload
If towing a camping trailer or fishing boat up north with your friends appeals to you, the 2022 Maverick offers the capability you need. With the hybrid powertrain equipped, the Maverick can tow up to 2,000 pounds. That’s enough for a pop-up camper. If you equip the Maverick with the available EcoBoost engine and 4K Tow Package it can tow up to 4,000 pounds — which should be sufficient for a larger fishing boat or moderately sized camping trailer.
