2025 Ford F-150 What is EcoBoost?

Ford EcoBoost technology is your gateway to achieving massive strength from a moderate-displacement engine. It’s why engines like the 2.7L EcoBoost V6 can make nearly as much torque as the naturally aspirated 5.0L V8 engine, and why the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 can offer the massive towing and payload potential that it does. The hallmarks of EcoBoost engines include:

• Turbocharging
• Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT)
• Direct Fuel Injection

On the 2025 Ford F-150 EcoBoost engines, turbocharging and direct fuel injection are incorporated in unique ways. Each F-150 EcoBoost engine uses not one, but two turbochargers to harness your engine exhaust and compress the air in each engine combustion chamber. In addition to direct fuel injection, each F-150 EcoBoost engine also includes port fuel induction — the unique Ford port-fuel and direct-injection (PFDI) system that further elevates performance. The 5.0L V8 engine utilizes Ti-VCT design and the PFDI system like the EcoBoost engines, but lacks a turbocharger. Meanwhile, the 5.2L V8 upgrades from a turbocharger to a supercharger and utilizes pure port fuel injection instead of PFDI.
